About the Workshop

Whether you’re a small business owner, supervisor, or someone simply wanting to understand how work health and safety (WHS) applies in the workplace, this free online workshop is the perfect starting point.

In just two hours, you’ll gain a clear understanding of your legal responsibilities, learn the essential components of a safe system of work, and discover simple, practical steps you can take to make your workplace safer, no matter what industry you’re in.

This workshop is designed for people who want to feel confident about WHS compliance and make informed decisions to protect workers, customers, and their business.

What You’ll Learn

Across two hours, we’ll cover the essentials every business and worker needs to know:

1. Understanding WHS in Australia

  • How the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulations apply

  • The role of Safe Work Australia and your state or territory regulator

  • What “reasonably practicable” means in real terms

  • The link between the Act, Regulations, and Codes of Practice

2. Key WHS Roles and Responsibilities

  • Duties of PCBUs, Officers, Workers, and Others

  • The concept of due diligence - what it looks like in practice

  • Consultation and communication obligations

  • Common compliance myths and how to avoid them

3. Building a Safe System of Work

  • The core elements every workplace needs (policy, risk assessment, consultation, incident reporting)

  • Simple WHS documentation that helps demonstrate compliance

  • How to identify, assess, and control hazards effectively

4. Managing Common Hazards

  • How to prevent injuries from everyday hazards like manual handling, slips and trips, electrical risks, and psychosocial hazards

  • Practical examples of effective risk control measures

5. Where to Next

  • Free and affordable resources to help you get started

  • How to access WHS templates, online training, and further learning opportunities through the Orana Skills Centre
