About the Course

Every organisation faces risks that, if not controlled effectively, could result in serious harm to people, the environment or operations. Critical Risk Management focuses on those few risks with the potential for catastrophic outcomes. It is a structured, proactive process to identify these critical risks, understand their causes and apply effective controls that prevent or minimise severe consequences.
At the heart of this approach is Critical Control Management, a practical system for defining, implementing and verifying the controls that matter most. It provides both prevention measures (controls that stop an unwanted event from occurring), mitigating measures (controls that will minimise the consequence following an unwanted event) and assurance measures (processes that test and confirm those controls are working as intended).
When integrated effectively, Critical Risk and Control Management form the foundation of an organisation’s operational resilience. When done well, they provide decision-makers with confidence that the right defences are in place, functioning reliably and supported by clear performance standards and verification data.
The Critical Risk Management & Control Assurance Program is designed to bring these principles to life. It bridges the gap between high-level frameworks like ISO 31000 and day-to-day operations, giving participants the tools to map risks, define controls and build assurance systems that genuinely protect people, assets and reputation.
This intensive two-day face-to-face program combines proven global methodologies with real-world application. Participants will build Bowtie analyses, determine which controls are critical, write performance standards and design verification activities that strengthen organisational assurance systems.
