About the Course

Bowtie analysis is one of the most powerful techniques in modern risk management, yet most workplaces still operate with spreadsheets and risk matrices that don’t show how incidents actually occur. A bowtie turns risk from theoretical into visible, revealing the pathways to failure, the controls that matter most and exactly where vulnerability sits.

This full-day face-to-face course builds practical capability, not just knowledge. Participants learn how to structure risk, map causes and consequences, identify critical controls and use bowties to drive high-quality decision-making across any industry.

If your organisation wants to prevent fatalities and serious harm, bowtie risk analysis is more effective than traditional risk assessments.

Who Should Attend

This program is built for people responsible for managing, influencing or assuring risk performance, including:

  • WHS and HSEQ professionals

  • Risk leaders, analysts and assurance managers

  • Site supervisors, team leaders and operational coordinators

  • ICAM investigators and audit practitioners

  • Anyone wanting to move beyond tick-box safety into real risk control

No previous bowtie experience required. We build capability from the ground up.

What You Will Learn

Participants leave with the ability to confidently build, critique and apply bowtie diagrams in the real world. You will learn how to:

✔ Structure a hazard, unwanted event, causes and consequences

✔ Build a complete bowtie using a repeatable step-by-step method

✔ Distinguish true controls from administrative tasks

✔ Identify critical controls that prevent high-consequence outcomes

✔ Apply control effectiveness requirements and failure modes

✔ Use bowties to inform assurance, auditing and CCV programs

✔ Strengthen the bowtie using data from incidents and near misses

The session is hands-on, scenario-driven and designed for implementation.
